So, my best friends sister (who I like and I plan to ask out sometime) is in the ballet (Cinderella). I called him, and he said that I should come down (points). So I said sure and inquired to the dress. He said nice, kinda like church. Well, when I do go to church (not very often now), I get dressed up very nice. (Like button down, tie, formal blazer, nice pants). I can't do that tonight because I don't have time to do laundry.

I have 2 jackets, one's a really nice two button (like this one), except mine has these leather oval things on the elbows...The other is an Eddie Bauer blazer (this one, except mine is green)

I have nice slacks (Eddie Bauer. They have cargo pockets, but it's a really weird material. They're khaki...

So can anyone help me? I need to get dressed up...what jacket should I wear and what color/kind of shirt?

I would just go with khaki pants button down shirt with a tie, I think the blazer would just be a little too much, at least for my church. Oh and another thing, have you never heard that trying to hookup with your best friends sis isnt a good idea??? Bro's before ho's, as the saying goes.

It's a little different in this situation.

I'll go with a tie for sure. What color shirt and tie?

"Kinda like church" is a bit ambiguous, because people dress differently at different churches. I know very few people who wear a jacket and tie to church. I'd wear nice pants and a white dress shirt with a sweater over it. That's a good way to look nice in the winter without wearing a jacket.

Sadly he's Prespy, so he does dress up a lot. Should the shirt and tie match? I can never figure this out, probably due to the fact that I'm colorblind...

OK, I've got a dark red Columbia button down (it's darker red with tan plaid...really small blocks), a green tie with some blue things on it and a green blazer...does the red/green/green work? I can't tell...

I would go with a pair of pants that do not have cargo pockets on them. I think the green blazer would look good, but I'm not seeing the plaid working it. You may look like some sort of Christmas ornament with a red/tan plaid and green blazer.

Do you have any solid dress shirts?

Do you have any fashion jeans? Not talking Eddie Bauer, but something else? You can do a dress shirt untucked, no tie, blazer, jeans and black wingtips - but that can be a tough look to pull off.

I have a tan shirt and a white shirt (I HATE WHITE!). I may have one pair of nice kakhis, but no fashion jeans. I can usually pull off the jeans/blazer look, but I don't know about now.

I also have a yellow shirt and an orange shirt (neither of which are button down). And a denim shirt.

In your situation I would go with the khakis and white shirt - I know you hate it, but sometimes when you dress up you do it for other people and not yourself (keep that in mind) also the tan shirt would look weird with the khaki pants. Top it off with the blazer; I would probably skip the tie.

If the colored shirts are collared you may want to see how they look with the pants and blazer.

True...it's just to me, white is kinda cliche in dressing up...

The other shirts are collared, but they don't button down (the collars)

Which blazer? The super-nice one or the green one?

Oooo...I just tried a denim shirt with the green blazer, and I think it looks pretty sharp...but then again, I can't dress myself, so...

I think if you are happy with it khaki pants, denim shirt and a green blazer would look good.

Are those other shirts button-up but it's just the collars that don't button down? I'm a bit confused.

I'd agree with Babbles that you want non-cargo khaki pants, white dress shirt, no tie, the 2-button blazer.

I have about 15 suits or sport coats. I used to go to the symphony which where I wore my most eclectic ones. I always wear button downs. The first sport coat shown would go good with a new black t-shirt or polo and black or grey slacks. This is not a traditional power dressing outfit but comfortable. I think chalk stripe suits for the boardroom and non-traditional for fun events.

Of course, black socks and black shoes. A Rolex and Mont Blanc Pen is a nice touch. Actually a Rolex is gawdy. A Tag-Heuer, Omega, or Brietling would be better.
