Well, I got a great deal on a 9700 and I thought it would blow away my overclocked 4200. My old 4200 would score 10000 or so 3dmarks by the way. I got the card and drivers loaded with no problem, but the 3d performance sucks. I set all of the tabs in the ATI control panel to total performance, and it still stinks. My motherboard is a new kt400 gigabyte 7vaxp if that helps. Anyone have any ideas where to start? I am stumped, and at this point I feel like returning the card .....:(

well i woundn't retrun the card, its not the card it is your configureation, granted it could be a milion and one things that you did wrong so its kinda hard for us to say what is wrong but first of are you sure all traces of the nvidia drivers are gone? you should be breaking 1200 with defualt settings and thats not even where the real benifit of the card comes in, once you get it running proper the fact that you can run high res with plenty of anti-alinisng and anisotroy is sure to impress any gamer.

Yeah, I have tried everything I can think of. I did a bios update on my mobo, ati driver updates, tweaking all bios settings, ati driver settings, new 4 in 1 's, everything. I am stumped! Pretty sad when my $95 4200 beats a $400 radeon 9700 by 25%......:(

your 95$ 4200 doesnt even come close to a 9700, i could cripple the hell out of my gefroce3 and make it get a lower score than my voodoo5 does but the onlything sad about that would be that i didnt give the geforce3 a fair shot. as i said before fist thing to consider is if there are still reminates of the nvidia drivers causeing the trouble, you say you tried eveything but i saw no mention of looking though the regustry to see if the cause of your troubles is in there. untell you format your drive and start from new to insure everying gets configured properly you have not treid everything, granted thats a last ditch effort but unless you never realy wanted the 9700 in the first place you will do what it takes to give it the proper enviroment to run right.

Well I got it fixed!! I disabled Norton Systemworks and a Gigabyte utility that were both running in the background and it doubled my 3dmark score!! I know some programs can slow down overall performance, but jeez, that is ridiculous......:)

Anyway, I couldn't pass up the deal I got on this card.....:)

If maybe just maybe you're still not happy... I could send you my address... and $5 for postage ..... whaddayasay? LOL
I'm so jeaous )

Glad you got it working. personally I HATE programs running in the background, even anti-virus. They suck up ram and CPU cycles that are needed for other more important things, like 3dmark scores...)
