My sister has enlisted me to do her taxes last minute. She is currently attending a university. Last year, she paid for $2600 out of her own pocket for school (not from mom).
My question: Is it going to be more beneficial for her to file and claim herself, or get claimed under mom. She (sister) only made about $15,000 last year. Mom doesn't make a whole lot of money, but lives comfortably. My sister wants to make sure she gets as much of her tax money back, as well as getting the most financial aid she can, as mom doesn't pay for anything.

*EDIT* Mom is typically very late in filing her taxes. Sometimes a couple of years behind.
