My folks pc is dead. No fans turning, no nothing.

Tried a different surge strip. Nothing. Went home and got my extra psu drove back. Hooked it up and still nothing.

I am figuring its the cheapo pcchips mobo but figured 'd ask before buying one for them.

Its socket A and and if you have ideas on which mobo thats appeciated too. Looking for onboard video so thiunking the Biostar board in budget selections jpeyton put together.

They had a friend over with a young kid and he may have pushed the pc on and off a few times. No other real clues. They are pc illiterate for the most part.

TIA for any time you can save me.

Regarding a possible new motherboard: what type of RAM does it use and what model of CPU does it have? Also, what model of PC Chips board is it, if you happen to recall?

One possibility is that the case's front Power button is not actuating the switch that's behind it (maybe the kid broke something plastic by pushing too hard), or the switch behind the button is stuck/jammed/faulty. You can test that by making momentary electrical contact between the motherboard's ATX Power Button pins, like shown here. If it starts up, then that tells you it's the switch and/or the button that actuates the switch.

Good luck, hope that helps :)

Thanks for the response.
I have been having to work so hadn't been able to go back over and re-check the pc.
I'll have them bring over on Thanksgiving then I'll load it to the bench on Friday and run it through as many steps as I can.
They have an old P2 box as well but its been collecting dust int he garage for a year so I'll clean that one up for them and see if I can get it stable enough to use for their email needs til they can buy new components if a mobo is required.
