Need suggestions on tech that can enhance my GoPro videos

Hey everyone! I hope you can help me with something a bit specific. As stated in the title, I have a ton of GoPro-recorded videos from my skiing trips, crossfit training (just starting out as a crossfit trainer in my area), and backpacking trips across 2 continents, and I am looking to edit my videos, give them a cinematic feel, and hopefully start a Vimeo or Youtube channel somewhere down the line. I have very minimal video-editing background but I am very willing to learn. I wouldn't mind spending money on a video editing software either, but right now, I'd like something that's free for me to use, easy to learn (quite important), and lightweight (preferably something that can run on a laptop because I am mobile most of the time). I would appreciate your suggestions, thanks!
 
Windows Movie Maker is free, and I thought it was something fun to learn on. Lots of options, and lots of help available online, but of course you would want to try it to see if it has the options you want.
