Need suggestions on P4 system

I'm looking for a good MB and P4 CPU (3.0Ghz or above) and RAM. Can anyone recommend a good combination, especially the motherboard? I was looking at the Asus P4C800 but I believe it's "old" nowadays since they have newer socket for Intel CPUs.

I don't play games at all... well maybe occasionally. I already have an old ATI all-in-wonder 7500 with 128MB on it so that should be enough for video. I also have all the needed HDs and DVDR/CDR drives so all I need is a good MB, P4 CPU & about 1G of RAM in 2x512MB. I'm planning to spend about $300-400 and I think that should be enough for those 3 items. It will be used mostly for apps like Visual Studio .NET, Photoshop, burning/ripping DVDs, watching/listening to video/audio online and maybe recording some tapes/TV show with that video card. I never own a P4 system before, believe it or not so I don't know what to get. I'm still using my P3's here. I do have a Pentium M 1.6G laptop though but I don't want to use it much, can't get used to type on it fast enough.

How's Abit mobo's these days? Last time I heard they had problem with blown-up capacitors on most of their P3 series.

You're going to have to ditch that card man.... buying a motherboard with an AGP is like buying a card that takes leaded gas. likewise with the unnecessary P4 necessitation.

I'd suggest an A64 so you can get a Asrock 939Dualsata2 so you can keep your agp card for it's tuner and not be stuck for upgrade paths.

Yah... I think I'm gonna have to get a new video card too but I really like that turner feature and don't want to spend much for a newer model AIW. I think the problem I'll have is most newer P4 boards have PCI Express video nowadays and they get rid of the AGP slot. I know AMD is getting pretty good these days too but I want to try out Intel first then maybe my next system will be AMD.

Alright, you can buy the lemon with less acceleration, lower top speed, and lower miles per gallon dude, but don't say you weren't warned.

I'm only trying to sway you to A64 because for the things you do that actually take CPU "Visual Studio .NET, Photoshop, burning/ripping DVDs" the P4 will get more pwned than Saddam Hussien.

rofl, nice. I don't get these people who are avid Intel fans. He might as well just go out and buy one of the new Macs with the Core Duo.

I'm using a P4 Prescott right now, and take my advice: Don't buy a P4 system. You will have a hard time keeping the chip and the system cool, and the A64 generally surpasses it in terms of performance anyway.
