Need suggestions on a case to mod!

Need some opinions on a foundation for my next/first case mod.

My criteria is minimal:
tooless design
120mm case fans
sliding mobo tray

Ultimately it needs to be easy to work on and well constructed. Dont need a PSU, sharp edges, fancy doors, or other gimmicks. The case will be covered in other materials, so how it looks out of the box is irrelevant.

I've been looking at the Antec P180, as has everybody else, and was looking for possibly alternatives. I only *NEED* to fit 2 optical drives, and room for 4 3.5's.

Going to put an athlon 64 3000 in it. Quiet would be nice.

Any input appreciated.

I'm an old newbie, only been at it 4-5years.

Three things most of us hold onto the longest: case, display & PSU. So chose well.

If silence is the top priority, look no further than the P180. SPCR has three reviews, one is a full build. Do not use an antec PSU.

Wanting a pair of 120s and a slide out tray limits your choices severly. But that's what I want in my next case buy. Google reviews, read several, Akasa Eclipse 62. Search this forum for Akasa case or Akasa Eclipse. One should be down this page about 30-50 posts.

Overcool.com has this fine case at $146. They ship double boxed.

Another case might be the P150.

I've been building them for about 12 years, my current case is an enlight that I purchased in 2000 with a thunderbird 1200. So that being said, I'm willing to go up to $200. Just looking for good ROI. 120mm fans(noise) remain most important vs. sliding tray. The P180 seems to have everything, but I'm not sure about the door. Can anybody explain how its attached?

If you've been building for 12 years, you should be able to search this forum for P180
door posts 😛 It's about how it doesn't stay attached or how it warps. I took a close look
at a P180 at Fry's. It's 31#s empty and looks like a kitchen appliance.
ATM I have two Lian Li PC-60s modded for 120 intakes and 92mm exhausts.

I'm old but not stupid 😉 I know lacking build quality when I see it.

If you must have a quiet Antec, get the pretty white P150. It has a 120 exhaust and provision
for two 92mm intakes. eBay the PSU it comes with and buy better.

The P180 and P150 are both very good, i've got a P180. But something like a coolermaster stacker is much easier to mod and a lot more potential for modding.
