I'm looking into getting a 32-36 inch HDTV for christmas. Mom doesn't want a widescreen and there isnt really enough room to get one of those tall 52 inchers. Trying to keep it around $1k.

I was looking around BestBuy yesterday, and suprisingly, the one that looked BY FAR the best was a 32'' Zenith. The picture was so much clearer and crisper than all the other similar TVs sitting nearby (Sony, Samsung Toshiba, etc.). There might have been an issue with how the other TV's were set up however, as they all seemed to have a picture that looked kind of compressed with visisble artifacts. The edges were also not nearly as smooth and crisp as they were on the Zenith. I know they were all running in HD mode because they still looked much better than the standard TVs, but I can't figure out why that one TV looked so much better than all the rest.

Ok, I need some suggestions on good TV's: 32-36'', HD, not widescreen, trying to keep it at $1k max.

Don't go by the quality in store UNLESS you adjust ALL the TVs the same. They juts pull them out of the box, through on a cheap connection and display it.

Circuit City had a deal this week or last, check them out. Also get a 36inch, you will never regret going bigger, but if you get a 32, you will always whonder.

And lastly, DON'T get a Sony. They have great piture quality, but they are not reliable overall.

Sony to TV's is what Audi is to cars. Looks good, but does not last.

Can you recall the model and price?

I agree about Sony & Audi.

What about Toshiba or Samsung? I'm having trouble finding 36'' for $1k.

And I think this was the one I was looking at in the store.

I LOVE toshiba as they come with a FULL 1 year warrenty, unlike Sony, and a lot of others, that only come with a FULL 90 day warrenty.

But yea the Zenith is nice. Has a 3D filter.

But I think Circuit City has that, or a similar one, for $100 less.

Also why do you want HDTV, do you have a source that can feed HD singnal?
I just got a new 36inch Toshiba regular TV as the closet thing I have to a HD source is a DVD player, and even then I am using the comp. input on the TCV from the DVD player so its still rocks and was way CHEAP

Another Zenith

I have a digital cable box that supports HDTV.

That Zenith is nice, but I heard that the reliability kind of sucks on them. (Consumer Reports says so, at least.)

Yea Zenith use to be one of the best, but that was when they were still owned and even made in the USA. I have a 27inch Zenith in my bedroom that is still kicking it after must be a good 5 years.

I alos remembered this HDTV with 3D filter at sears for $699

Big HDTV

But it s a 43inch one, so I think you wanted something smaller?? But is in your price range and using a HD signal should look nice, but don't know much about it.

Yeah, we dont have enough room for one of those tall ones. I was kind of leaning towards Toshiba before, since I've had good experiences with their products, but I'm not sure if they make a 36'' HD set that can be had for $1000.
