Need Suggestions for Router, Network Setup

Hello,

The wife recently got a laptop for her work and needs wireless access to the internet for it.

My problem: The main computer downstairs has a Roadrunner cable modem and it is used primarily for online gaming/some downloading where speed is necessary. Therefore, I would like a wired connection to my main online gaming computer downstairs, but have wireless for the laptop upstairs.

Is there such a router that allows wired and wireless connection? If so, does the wired connection lose speed by going through the router?

Any advice or suggestions for a router appreciated, I'm a newbie when it comes to networking.

The vast majority of the routers i know of come with 4 wired ports and then wireless on top of that....

there are some minor variations (more or less ports, different types of wireless technology, etc..), but theyre pretty much all gonna do that purpose. how good is the question.
 
Any SOHO router with wireless will work for your needs. Hook it up to your cable modem and wire it to your desktop, wireless for the laptop.
