Need suggestions for PCMCIA ethernet card and online laptop stores

I don't know much about laptops so I need help with which ethernet card is good. It only needs to be 10 baseT. Also, the card would also need a converter to use with a CAT5 cable right? The laptop will be connected to a university network. Thanks.

The PCMCIA card you buy will come with a "converter" (actually, adapter). They are all pretty much the same, but you can buy 3com if you want a brand name (which does not mean it's better, maybe just better driver support).

RJ45 is the type of jack you will use.

I've been looking around an the cards seemed to be put in two catagories: the $20 ones (like the 3Com 3C589D-TP) and the $50 ones (like the 3Com 3CXE589DC w/xjack connector). What's the difference?
