A good friend needs a system for pro-audio, he's not in a big rush, and is considering waiting for the Socket F & quad-core opterons to come out. Do you think a dual-core opty would suite his needs, or is the prescott a better choice?
HE IS NOT...I REPEAT NOT!!! going to be gaming with this system, but a graphics card with dual DVI would be nice as he needs a dual monitor setup.
He's planning to run Win XP, and will be using it for recording multi-track audio, and mastering the recordings. I'm not sure what to recommend for hardware....obviously he needs a pro-audio soundcard, any reccommendations? How important is hard disk performance (I was thinking SATA RAID5)? He wants dual-core minimum as mentioned above, but is more cores going to be cost effective in this application? Also, how much RAM (2 or 4gigs)?
Any other thoughts would be welcome, thanks!
