Well, In the next few days I'll be getting a second computer along with a ethernet cad for my Dreamcast. And in my current setup, my cable modem(Static IP) is simply connected to my LAN card in my main computer.

My question is what do I need to get all three machines(2 PCs and 1 DC) connected to my cable modem? I should also note that getting a second IP is available to me at no cost(I think).

Do I just need a Hub/Switch? Or do I need something more?

Thanks in Advance!

You could go with a Linksys 4-port router/switch. This will allow you to use the single IP you have, and network your machines either through staticaly assigned addresses or DHCP. Does the Dreamcast support DHCP?

Outlamd is correct. A Linksys 4-port switch/router would be sufficient for your use. Plus I have never had a problem with any Linksys product that I have purchased.

If you want all three computers to access the Internet, you will need to invest in a hardware or software router. The LinkSys Router with 4-port switch ($150) will work. Also, consider the SMC Barricade for the same price. SMC has better live technical support (24/7) and the router comes with a print server.

On the software end, you can use one of your computers to act as the Internet Gateway and configure ICS (Internet Connection Share) for Win98SE/Win2k. This costs nothing, but you will need the ICS computer on for the others two have Internet access.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
