Pick a real weakness you have that isn't related to the job. I'm an analyst in HR - the weakness I always give is that I'm terrible at Sales. I then relate it back to the job a little bit by saying that I'm not very good at "selling" people on ideas, I'm better at presenting facts and helping them make a decision (exactly what an analyst should do.)

The weakness I always give is that I'm not the greatest at delegating - I can be very details-oriented and stringent on standards, so I want to make sure that everything passes by my eyes before giving a thumbs up. Naturally, if you progress up the chain of command, at some point that simply becomes impossible.

It's a legitimate weakness, but also makes them think, "Wow, he really loves his work / wants it to be top quality."

Be honest with yourself. Don't try and reverse the question.

We don't know your damn weakness.

Are you the guy that is always 2 minutes late?
Are you the guy that has a hard time staying organized?
Are you the guy that doesn't remember meetings until an hour before?

You gotta be someone. It doesn't have to even relate to work.

The sad thing is that is my biggest weakness. I underwrite insurance and I've been staring at an account for the past hour because it is a "problem" account. I know there is some creative way to do what I want....I just can't think of it at the moment.
It should hit me after a couple of beers tonight.

I usually tell them I have problems with giving up my back and a poor side control defense. Most of my loses are by kimura from side control.

um, well, what honestly is your greatest weakness?

"i don't respond well to threats from management"
"i'm constantly annoyed by co-workers"
"i hate waking up to go to work"

The last line is better than those 3 in the middle. ;)

Probably not a good idea to be THAT honest. Telling a possible employer you're chronically late or disorganized is going to drop you down behind the next guy who may not be *quite* as qualified, but definitely has his sh1t together. I'm sure the OP can think of something similar to what Uppsala said... something that sounds both negative and positive. Even just saying "I'm an overachiever" would work (but then, I can't stand overachievers so...).

This interests me as well. I am trying to word a weakness of mine in a good way. My weakness being that I hate doing boring remedial tasks such as scanning computers for spyware daily. I tend to do half ass jobs when I get stuck doing these tasks. How can I word this in a way that doesn't sound horrible?

I was thinking of saying I enjoy learning new things a little too much. I tend to lose interest in tasks that I have to do repeatedly since I would rather be acquiring a new skill.

Any other suggestions? Oh and I know I will have to do some things I don't want to sometimes, this isn't the problem. But my last job got to the point where ALL I did was these daily and weekly rituals and I got so sick of it I had to get out.

your greatest weakness is not being able to make a decision on your own.

ie. what to answer to this question.
