need suggestions for a wireless router

I would like to share my Verizon DSL connection amongst 5 computers. 3 are going to connect via RJ-45 cable, and two are laptops with wireless cards (one of them supports 802.11g).

The various OSs are WinXP, Win2K, OSX and Gentoo Linux.

The wireless router I am thinking of getting is this one: Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A+G Broadband Router

Now, I don't need the 802.11a. However from the reviews I've read, this one works better than most with mixed networks (I will have 802.11b and 802.11g). I can get it for $129 from cdw.com.

Also, if you check out the home networking for verizon dsl, they sell linksys routers, so I assume linksys works with verizon DSL...

I have looked at compex and netgear routers as well, but the linksys linked above seems to be the best bet, especially for the price (netgear's comparable product seems to be going for about $229).

The other thing is, I am setting this up for my parents, so when I permenantly move out of the house, I don't want to have to be constantly maintaining their network. I want to basically set the router up and have it do a decent firewall job as well.

Any suggestions? Will this router *not* work with Verizon DSL?

cheers!

As far as I know this is probably Ballony.

All Entry Level Routers work with Verizon DSL.

If you are the Hacker Type you might want to take a look at the Linksys 802.11g Wireless Router. it is very popular among people who like Hack.

With a third party Hacked firmware it is very versatile: http://www.i-hacked.com/ccomponents/wrt54gs.htm

Otherwise: Wireless What Should I Get?

:sun:

I personally don't mind hacking, but this will not be under my control in the future, so I want to leave the setup as "original" as possible. (and another concern is that uploading a modded firmware will void the warranty...)

Still, the bandwidth management the modded firmware provides looks very nice. I wonder if there are any wireless routers out there that support that natively...(and that I can afford...)

Oh yeah, the other thing was, the linksys router looked like it had good signal strength. Of course, the house I'm installing it in is very small, maybe 70' long, max. Heck, the property is only 100' x 100'. However, I was thinking of placing the router in the basement, so the signal would have to go through at *least* the floor...

cheers!
