I haven't been keeping up with the lastest motherboards lately so I need some suggestion for a good motherboard.

Also the best bang for your buck cpu. Brand and speed.

Thanx

<< CPU - Intel Pentium 4 1.4-1.9 GHz Socket 478 depending on the budget.

Board - ASUS P4S333 - already available, the best P4 board right now out there, uses SiS 645 DDR333 chipset.

So Intel Pentium is now a better value than AMD?

When I was following the Intel vs AMD thing months ago AMD was the better value.

That's strange.

AMD Athlon XP is faster and cheaper than the Pentiums.
Go to Pricewatch and check the price!

Motherboard: Elitegroup K7S5A with SIS 735 Chip is very good or buy one with AMD 761 Chip.

FOr what I do, the AMD is better value.

Although its an old board, if you want an AMD chipset, get a Gigabyte GA-7DXR.

Dual Bios, RAID, XP support.

Get an AMD Palomino with a VIA KT266a chipset. That setup offers extremely high performance for dirt cheap pricing.

CPU - Intel Pentium 4 1.4-1.9 GHz Socket 478 depending on the budget.

I don't think so. The P4 offers one of the lowest price/performance ratios of any CPU currently on the market.

shaddap w/ the intel vs. amd quarrel

best socket A board price/performance wise: ECS K7S5A (SIS 735)
best socket A board overclocking wise, and IMO, period: iWill XP333 (Ali Magik b0 (c0?) stepping)

and since i don't follow the p4 scene much, i'll refrain from making any ill-founded suggestions.

ham, now it is!

I would say the Shuttle AK31v3 has by far the best performance/price ratio among all SocketA boards. It is very stable, high performing, and overclocks well, Shuttle also makes decent quality stuff, so I believe it is the wisest choice in the AMD front.

Stop suggesting the K7S5A! I have one and I'm happy with it, but please. There is the K7S6A now, is there not? Get that...

I would however recommend the Epox motherboard everyone's been babbling about.

Athlon XP 1800/1900 and SOYO K7V DRAGON Plus/ABIT KR7A-Raid

Can't really go wrong with any of this...

If you really want to pinch the penny, get the ECS K7S5A, because it has built-in NIC and sound and is a fast board, and a 1.4Ghz Thunderbird and overclock it to 1.5 or 1.6Ghz. That would cost you about $180 shipped and is quite good.
There are also K7S5A+Athlon XP sets being sold at Fry's and Outpost...you might want to check them out. It might be better to get the K7S5A and Athlon XP 1700 for $199 than the abovementioned setup...

I've got an Epox 8K7A+ with 1.33 GHz T-Bird and have had no problems. Very easy to use, good price, reliable. I have not overclocked the snot out of it though. Maybe thats why I have had no problems.
