I just got a Logitech Dual Optical Mouse and need some kind of surface to use with it. I had a MS optical and just used my desk. Now I am using an old mousepad and I want to get something that will work well with thie great new mouse i got. I like the regular cloth mousepad cause it feels good while i game.

Any suggestions?

I use the Allsop blue rain drop mouse pad(cloth type) and it`s washable, very comfortable and gives my Logitech Optical Mouseman Wheel the right response for gaming etc, here is the link for pic etc. it`s also very cheap :).

I've been using a fUnc sUrface 1030 for about a year, and I love it. My Logitech Wingman Gaming Mouse (ball mouse) loves the smooth side (a la 3M PMS), and my optical mice just work beautifully with the rough side (a la Ratpad).

You seemed to know what you want so go with that ,being it`s also cheap.I think the Ratzpad are better for ball type mice, rather then optical where the quality of the sensor and optical feedback from the surface is more important.

As mentioned above, the most important part is the texture. What you want, in my opinion, with a high resolution mouse, is a very fine texture, not a coarse one...
Just pick your mousepad very carefully. Price should not really matter.

If you're going to be using an optical mouse, a cloth surface would usually feel better. I tried using the plastic mouse pad, but it slides too much. If you have a ball mouse, then plastic would be nice, but I would go with the cloth. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the unput people. I am gonna get another cloth mousing surface. Even though the func and ratzpadz look nice, i dont think i will like the plastic surfaces.

Anyone know a good place to buy cloth type mousing surfaces online?

I forgot to say I`ve both plastic and cloth type mouse mats and the cloth is better for my optical in use.The plastic one is like being on ice while the cloth has better grip and feel, yeah it sounds like a racing car ;).

yeah I tried the 3m precise and i hate it. Its got a good surface, but it is so thin and lite, it wont stay in place. It moves all over my desk.

i use a 3m precise mousing pad and it works pretty good. it tends to slide around a lot on my desk, but my keyboard usually stops it. costs about $10 from staples so it isn't exactly cheap.

I got the microsoft intellieye. (non explorer) so i have two extra buttons, one on each side. not the same side. But thats not the point anyway. So you guys dont think the 3M is good for optical? too slippery? mouse moves to easy like ice? But i also dont like conventinal mouse pads where they are thick and so my wrist dont sit on the same level as the mouse.

I get all my mousepads for free from work everytime I install new CAD/CAM software

Comparing the Surface 1030 to any of those other things is akin to comparing a 10K diamond to a pile of $hit. There's no comparison. For $19 the surface was hands-down the single best investment I have made in my computer, period.

I personally use a small cutting board. The texture of Ratpad/Everglides are very similiar to hard plastic cutting boards anyway.

I use a trackball mouse now but when I was using a real mouse my fovorite surface was -nylon covered wet suit material. I went to my local dive shop that makes custom wet suits and got a piece of material that has blue nylon bonded to the outside surface. Worked better than any mouse pad that I ever bought.

Where's the "none" option. With an optical mouse, unless you have a white one, your desk will do a great job and you won't need to worry about rolling off stupid mouse pads.

I have found that a piece of Plain old copy paper works the best for me. Motion is smooth and it glides very smoothly. Plus, it is easily replaceble.

LMAO! TOO funny...

Someone has to post a thread with a Poll to help them decide what kind of mouse pad they need to buy! :|

Man, I hope you never have to decide anything important on your own, like buying a car!

hehehehehehehe

I agree there should be a poll for none, however my desktop with no mouse pad is crap for my optical mouse,it`s black with satin finish and the sensor is not great on that surface, that`s why I use a decent mouse pad,I`ve also tried the white sheet of paper and yes that works well but not as comfortable as a decent cloth mouse pad. It`s worth the time to try your optical mouse on different surfaces you will notice different results.
