Need suggestions for a budget laptop ($600 range)

I'm looking to pick up a cheapish laptop for my brother since his new job will require he have one, but he's pretty broke from being unemployed for so long. If this were ten years ago, I'd have no issues, but now all I'm seeing is Chromebook, Vivobook, Notebook, Probook, 2-in-1 books, Zenbooks, etc. etc. etc. I have no idea why everything is now a book and my job doesn't leave me with much time to research what each different edition is supposed to do as opposed to their counterparts, so I'm hoping the experts here can guide me in the right direction.

I just need a laptop that can browse the internet, run simple applications (data entry, calculations, play music, stream movies, store data, and file management - basically Excel/Office and the default media players). I'm looking to spend around $600 (nothing overly expensive) but I can be flexible a hundred or so if there is a very noticeable difference. Also, he says he misses gaming ever since his PC fried 7 years ago so I was hoping to find a low-end gaming laptop but it seems those don't exist for under $750 anymore. It doesn't need to be able to run games but it'll be a huge plus if it can, but this is primarily a work laptop he'll also use at home for movies and music (ex took pretty much all of his stuff - long story).

Any recommendations? I'd prefer to grab it from Newegg but I can go with Amazon if I absolutely have to.

gtx 1050, 256GB SSD, $629
gtx 1650, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, $699
these bestbuy laptops seem to be the best deals I can find atm

newegg filter for <$750 laptops with gaming graphics cards
mostly acer nitros with 4gb ram, 500gb spindle drives, and rx560 though.

slickdeals posted some nice refurbs from ebay, though they're all sold out atm. Link for reference.

microcenter does have a laptop with 1660 ti for $750, though you'd have to live near one hah. Also, it's over budget.
