Hi,
I've been asked to purchase a computer for my lab at work, since my co-workers know that I'm a wannabe geek. Budget is around $2500, although I'm sure I could go over that limit. It will primarily be used in a microscope room, where a sophisticated microscope setup will be attached to this computer. Basically I will be importing microscope images onto the computer, and view/edit these pictures on the computer.
We already have one at work that does the job sufficiently. That computer's spec is P4 2.4Ghz, 512mb RDRAM, with 40GB of HDD space and Hitachi 21" CRT monitor. I will be needing this second computer for another microscope setup, which we just got in.
Only thing my co-workers desire is a large monitor that has vibrant colors (this is critical, since we have to make judgment calls based on color/shade of cells we look at). I'm guessing I will also need at least 512mb of memory, along with a good video card.
I was looking into getting this, and I wanted to know if I should proceed with it. I will be upgrading the monitor to a 21" Trinitron CRT, but thinking about getting the 20.1 in 2000FP Dell Ultrasharp? Digital Flat Panel instead. Will there be that much difference between 21" Trinitron vs 20.1" flat panel in terms of color quality? Flat panel will be nice, since it has a much smaller footprint, but I heard CRT is better for color quality. Since there is a $400 off coupon that expires tomorrow, I'm thinking about adding a second monitor for dual monitor display setup (my lab would love that).
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
cliff notes version: need a computer for my lab, that can handle heavy photo editing. thinking about getting THIS. if I want good color quality, is Trinitron CRT better than digital flat panel display? :sun:
