Hi,

My Leadtek Ti4200 128mb video card recently died on me,
so I would like to purchase a new card.

I have couple cards in mind, cause they are all about the same price on newegg's refurbished section.

Sapphire Atlantis ATI RADEON 9600 PRO
Gainward Ultra/750-8X XP, Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4800 SE
VGA PNY Verto GEFORCE FX 128MB DDR AGP 8X 5200 ULTRA
ABIT SILURO GF4 TI4200-8X 128MB
Prolink Geforce FX 5600 256MB

Since they are all in the same price range, I really dunno which to pick from.
read couple previews, seems that the 9600 outperformes all of them in most tests

Well, I haven't been looking at video cards for awhile, so help me pick

Thanks all~~~~:D

For sure the ATI is the best card you have listed. Both its speed and image quality are the best also.

In that list the Ati card is prob. the best, but if you want nvidia the 4800 SE is prob. the best card

Okay, Thanks i'll go with the ati....
should i get 9600 pro retail for $126 or 9500 ddr bulk for $105

cause i heard that 9500 is faster then 9600????
then why is 9600 more expensive....and shouldn't 9600 be better then 9500 cause its a newer model?

How very interesting......I remember last year when I bought a video card....everyone told me to buy a Nvidia....and now ATI....how interesting.....ATI must have improved alot for the past year....

IMO, I'd take the 9600 Pro over the 9500 (unless it's the L-shaped memory config that might be able to softmod into a 9700 equivalent). Where are you finding the 9600 Pro Retail for 126? [Make sure in the chipset it says '9600 Pro' rather than '9600']

A 9500 pro is a little faster than a 9600 pro, just like a ti4200 is (much!) faster than a fx5200. Boyh nv and ATI are trying to drive us mad with a barrage of misleading product numbers :)

Remember that the 9600 is easily overclockable. This would make it perform on par with the 9500 Pro, if not faster. The 9500 NP is actually a crippled 9700 which simply has 4 pipelines disabled. You can enable them and get the 4 pipelines for free, and thereby gaining performance. I don't know if all 9500 NP can be uncrippled, but those that can perform like a 9700.

Based on your list, I'd recommend the 9600 Pro. Even if you're a passive overclocker, you can add ~25% performance from a moderate overlcock in a 9600... they overclock a lot!

is on Newegg.com's reburbished section today: )

great prices: )

thanks for all your help~~~

very interesting knowing that a 9500 np can be moded into a 9700

also very interesting knowing that both ati and nvdia have the the newer gen of video card performs slower then the previous generations....

thanks all.
