It ain't Rocket Science. Anyone who takes a Poster post then starts bringing "Mod" into the discussion as a swipe at the Poster is treading water and likely to be forcibly drowned.
The above doesn't cover everything. A mod is entitled to post as a member without harassment/reference to his mod status. He or she is treated as a member, just as you or anyone else.
A mod cannot post your above statement:
"Do that again and you'll get Vacationed or worse"
if they have been posting as a member in the thread. That sort of post you are quoting would need to come from another mod that was not participating in the thread. It would have to be a mod summoned to moderate the thread because of the other mod participating in that thread.
I am going to give a couple examples based on how Derek sees this. I have distilled it down from some of his examples to us and added some of my own words. But this should be the general message. If I am wrong, I am sure Derek will let me know about it.
Examples:
1) If a member tells a participating member of a thread, who happens to be a moderator, "you wouldn't have gotten away with "such and such except that you are a mod."
That's a mod callout. Anything worse than this is still obviously a mod callout.
2) Now if you as a member posted in a thread where a mod has also been participating as a member, and you said "I think that, as a mod, you shouldn't have done such and such", this isn't allowed either. But this is that slightly gray area where we wouldn't (possibly) look at it as a mod callout per se, but it still shouldn't be posted. Because again, a member is questioning a post by a member, who just happens to be a mod and referring to his mod status. That example, while not as blatant as the one above, will probably just generate a warning to not post in that manner.
Here's a answer to the OPs statement, which is not really correct.
Excuse me if it was only a question. This will clear it up.
I posted the question asking I thought mods were just regular posters when posting outside their appointed forum.
Mod can also be posters in their forum that they moderate, (such as BFG10K, Amberclad or Virge in Video for example). They just cannot moderate within that thread that they are posting in. If they need some help when they see possible trouble brewing in the thread, they would summon another video mod from within that forum, such as BFG10K, Amberclad or Virge (whoever wasn't posting in the thread) to help. If they were not available, they can contact a senior moderator who has the authority to moderate in any forum.
