Need special type of thermal pad...

I need a special kind of thermal pad for my laptop's chipset (VIA VT8362). The one that's currently installed is not a phase-change type. It's soft, brittle, and pinkish color that sticks to the laptop bottom side. The chipset is placed with force on the non-adhesive face. The pad is about 1-1.5mm thick uncompressed. The texture is somewhat bumpy.

Would a phase-change thermal pad be good for this? I'm not sure whether the temperature is high enough for it to become waxy or it would run or bleed.

Would thermal paste work? I'm afraid that it's not "thick" enough so the chipset may not make good contact with the metal's bottom.

I also notice there are a few smaller thermal "interface." They're like small (about 2-3mm thick) rectangular pieces of eraser except much softer. Each of them touches an IC, so I assume they're hot.

Where can I get these non-phase change thermal pad with various thickness? I've been googling around but mostly came up with the phase-change kinds and thermal paste.

Thanks for the help, but I just read it yesterday. It doesn't seem to contain info about where I can obtain these types of non-phase change thermal pads.

But it seems that AMD recommands that lidless (no heat spreader) Athlon XP, MP, Duron, etc... to use phase-changing thermal pad to that of thermal paste. I'm considering using Arctic Silver 5 on the laptop's heatsink. Would that be better in terms of cooling and reliability (such as the paste getting pushed out over time especially since it's a laptop)? The thermal pad seems to be more reliable, but I'm not sure whether it performs as well as AS 5. Anyone with any input?
