Need special case for Micro ATX board?

I was just wondering..
If I get a motherboard with micro ATX from factor, will I need a something likea.. micro ATX case, and will I be limited to just one 5.25'bay to install CDs and stuff on the case? This is because I heard that you get only one bay for micro ATX ones.. Can anyone clarify this?

Thanks, umm.. what bout the number of 5.25' bays.. do they depend on the motherboard form factor?

(BTW.. I don't know the difference between Micro ATX and standard ATX.. which is better?)

The number of bays is determined by the case. Micro-ATX cases generally have less bays.

As for motherboards, generally Micro-ATX boards have less PCI slots.

If you are starting from scratch, get standard ATX stuff.

it matters not, most ATX cases will house M-ATX, micro-ATX just means the board is a smaller form factor, will have less expansion slots...

I will say from experience that some ATX cases WILL NOT fit a micro-atx motherboard.

Although m-atx boards are indeed shorter, they are often times considerably wider than their ATX counterparts. Take your standard Gigabyte or Abit ATX board and compare it to an Intel CA-i810 motherboard. The CA-i810 board is about 3-4 inches wider than the standard ATX board.

The problem this causes is short lengthed, and narrow cases. Your CD-ROMs will either a) not fit into the bottom couple of 5.25" bays because they will be stopped by the motherboard, or b) the CDROM will run into the SDRAM sticks.

Just my advice - if you are going to get a m-atx board, make sure that the case specifically states that it will fit a m-atx board, or, make sure that the case is big enough to sacrefice the bottom one or two 5.25" bays if it is a smaller case.

Just my advice. I've had two cases so far that would not fit a m-atx intel i810 board.
