Need something to play... good PC demos?

Ummm...what genre? Almost all games out have demos - Doom3, Rome: Total War, etc.

Heck, there are even some "full versions" of games freely available. The "demo" for 'Savage' is basically the full game - all the maps, just missing one race. 'Americas Army', of course, is a free full-version game. 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory' is also a full-version free game.

I'm on my gf's computer, so no FPS games. This thing is slow. I'd prefer an RPG, but whatever else is interesting.

Define "slow"? And the big question is - can you do multiplayer? A lot of the "free" demos do so by offering just the multiplayer component or something of an otherwise full game.

Anyway, some decent RTS game demos:

Age of Empires 2 (and don't forget the patch. This one is great because it's 2d only - playable without a 3d accelerator!)

Age of Empires 2: The Conquerers (seperate install than the above, even though the full versions of the games work together)

Medieval: Total War (best RTS series to date)

Shogun: Total War (best RTS series to date)

Neverwinter Nights (not an RTS - a roleplaying game - but played isometric all the same, multiple units to control, and fairly playable on low-end systems)

A P4 1.8, 256mb ram, and Geforce 4MX.

I'm not really into multiplayer that much. I prefer single player games I can play at my own pace.

Your definition of slow is vastly different than mine.

Well, it's plenty fast for office, email, and the internet. but it's a bit slow for any new games.

Yeah... well, when you say slow I envision something under 1GHz.
