Need something for family laptops.

My house has a single router to which the main pc is hooked up too. In order to get internet access I have to string a long cord from the router, or find another way. I want to make the internet access wireless, but I have relatively little knowledge when it comes to networking (i bought a switch rather than a router when we were getting cable). My questions are:

1) What device can I plug into the router to get wireless for the laptops spaced around the house. Does it have to be a wireless router, or is there some other way?

2) If I have to get a wireless router, what's the easiest way to set up security on it?

Edit: I only need one ethernet port. I have more than enough on the router as it is.

You can get another wireless card and pop it into a PC with a connection to the wired network.

Security: set it to the highest level your hardware supports. I don't know lot about wireless security.

you need an access point to add wireless. You will find that Acess points are often more then routers. Turn DHCP off, assign an IP in range with the router, and plug LAN to LAN and you have turned the cheaper router into an AP
