I have a midterm in the evening and I think I am going to bomb it badly. I am thinking about dropping the course but I'm not sure if I should stick it out with a slim chance of getting a C or just drop it. I have about 4 W's before I transferred into the college I'm in now. The only think I could think of for a W affecting you is if you're planning to transfer or have not yet been accepted into your major. I don't plan to transfer anywhere else and I have already declared and got accepted into my major. So how bad can this W along with my 4 others be?

looks bad..especially if its whole semester! Get a medical withdrawal instead if u can swing it--different code, looks much better (basically makes you look less like the dumbass u might be!)

well, are you a senior? 4 drops in 4 years isnt TOO bad. Damn, i havent had to drop a class yet, after 3 terms. I'd stick with it, if i were you.

If you're not going to transfer or go to grad school, it doesn't matter. If you are, 5 isn't that much worse than 4 (4 is pretty bad already).

You don't want to take W's but if you really think you'll get a D or F, it's better to take one and keep your GPA up.

well i MIGHT goto grad school but that would be in the distant future. maybe like when i'm 30ish. do you guys think my transcript would come back to haunt me even 10 + years after i get my BA?

also do you guys think my major department can kick me out of the major?

the only bad thing that i can see out of this is that i have to repeat the course.

Not bad, I had a total of 8 Ws, had no problem finding a job or getting accepted to grad school. I think as long as you have a 3.4 gpa, it's fine. Then again those Ws are not classes from my major.

<<Lots of "W"s make you look like a lazy dumbass. >>

yes i know that but my question is who would really care if i look like a lazy dumbass? i'm already in the school i wanted and my gpa ain't too shabby. i've already declared my major. who is left to criticize my W's?

If I was you and I honestly thought I would not be able to get a C, then I probably would. If you think you can get a C, don't withdraw.
Getting a C in a required course that's not even in your major doesn't matter much, and you avoid taking the class again. Adding to your total of W's and retaking the course would be worse than getting a C IMO.

simple fact: W is better than F.

If you think you can pass with a C, go for it. I'm in FL. FL universities will only accept grades of C or better for some courses. I dont know if its the same in CA, but my advice is to stick with it

Better than an F, but probably worse than a D...definitely worse than a C anyway, not sure how it compares to a D. I had a lot of W's.

All those W's, I'm guessing you aren't a straight A student. You probably won't be able to go to grad school after university (like anybody would frigging want to anyway!), but do you guys think my transcript would come back to haunt me even 10 + years after i get my BA this would depend. Harvard it would, otherwise quite probably not. I have average university grades but once you've got some real work experience and been out in the world people going back to up their education the universities look much less disfavorably on poor undergrad grades.

try for an incomplete if you can get it... you'll need a damn good long term excuse... but think of it as an extra 3 months to study...

well i don't think a W is worst than a D. a D screws your GPA bad. i am studying to be a civil engineer and eventually want to get a master's in architect but not sure when. i definately want to get a job and start working for a few years before i slave my arse through school again for a masters. in my opinion architect isn't something that is too heavily dependant on getting an A in stupid classes like religious studies. i guess imma drop it and hopefully 10 years from now i won't regret it :)

btw, my family doctor is a corrupted mofo. i can probably get him to sign me a note for medical leave but then i dn't think it would make sense. they would ask why would i need to drop that particular class for medical reason while still attending my other classes.

hah I have never even showed my transcript to any employer since none have requested. I have a couple of withdrawals as well. It just depends on where you try to get a job. If they are going to want to even see the transcript more than likely they will go over it with a fine tooth comb. Otherwise they will probably just want to see your diploma.

I have a bunch on mine also.
I hope they don't cost me medical school.
Good luck.

It depends on whether it's a "withdrawal pass" or "withdrawal fail," although I think any more than 2 or 3 look bad either way. If you withdrawal while you're failing that looks worse than withdrawing while you're passing.

Hope that made sense....
