People go to yard sales to get stuff cheap, so price your stuff accordingly. There are some things that always fetch a good price (Little Tykes toys for example) and then there are always people who are professional yard salers who will buy stuff from you and then turn around and sell it at a higher price.

Yard sales can be a lot of fun as long as you understand you are dealing with hard core bargain shoppers! If there is something you want to sell for the fairest price possible (like furniture) you are better off putting a free or low cost ad in one of those bargain shopper flyers.

Have Fun!

Here is what I find appealing:

EXOTIC ITEMS!!!

otherwise don't price the item anywhere near the retail price and ALWAYS keep your eyes on it especially if you're in an inner city. They'll steal things you've never imagined.

Treat it like what it really is, People are paying you for carting off the crap you don't want anymore.

Best advice - If someone wants a discount tell them to buy more stuff and you'll consider it.

Anything in really nice shape you are better off trying to sell on e13ay. For example, this used RL shirt sold for $10.50 -- and, they made a buck off the shipping charge. Put a $10 tag on it in your yard sale, and you'll be lucky if someone offers you a quarter. My family has held garage sales for more than 20 years, and it is very rare that you will be able to sell something nice at a decent price. Took me a lot of hauling good stuff back into the closet to learn this lesson. Use yard sales to clear out large amounts of junk -- use e13ay for anything you think is worth something. Good luck!
