Here's the long and the short of it.
I have a laptop that died. I got a replacement for it, but when I try to boot the old HD in the new system, it won't boot (BSOD). It asks to try to go back to a previous version, but that has the same effect. My first thought was to put the drive in my desktop PC and pull the critical information off to transfer, but that isn't going so well.
I can add the drive in my XP Pro system, but some of the directories are locked. It seems like either a Filesystem corruption thing or a permissions thing. I tried adding myself and taking over the permissions, but I still can't get into all of the directories. the system says that they appear to be offline etc.
The old system is a Dell D620 laptop running Vista Ultimate
the new one is a D630 running vista untimate.
