Need some upgrade advice

I've been out of the hardware loop for some time and am looking for some help deciding on whether I should upgrade my video card or hold off and pick up a new system down the line.

My goal is to have good fps at 1280 x 1024 mid lvl settings for games coming out this year and next. I'll be picking up Starcraft 2, Fallout 3, couple first person shooters and such. I would like to spend as little as possible to accomplish this.

My current setup:

MB- MSI nForce 4 SLI
K8N Neo4/SLI

CPU- Athlon 64 4000 2.41GHz

Video Card- EVGA e-Geforce 6800 Ultra 256mb PCI-E

2gig Ram and WinXP

Would it be worth while getting a 2nd 6800 Ultra and hooking up SLI, or would I be better off just replacing this old card with a newer/faster one? Should I even bother with upgrades on this system or just wait a year and get a new MB and all new components (keeping in mind I would like to spend as little as possible to obtain my gaming goal)?

I love pc gaming but the constantly changing hardware is a bit overwhelming for me, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

4850 will come out in 3 weeks and carry a price tag of about $250 at launch. If that doesn't destroy the 8800gts/9800gtx, you should get a 8800gt or 8800gts then (probably will see them for around $120 and $160 after rebates then).

Since you have PCI-E slot you should be fine upgrading. You should get a faster single card instead of thinking SLI a 6800. A 9600gt can be had for pretty cheap. You should step up your processor to a dual core as well.
