I was looking to do some upgrading but have two paths I can take.

Current system specs in sig....

The first path is I upgrade my Dragon plus to a Abit AN7 or the Abit NF7-S since it a little cheaper.

The second path is upgrading my memory. Right now I have 1 stick of Corsair XMS 512MB PC2700 and 1 stick of kingmax 256MB PC2700. Was thinking of taking the 256mb stick out and replacing it with another Corsair 512 stick.

If I go the motherboard way, I could use the dragon plus and the 256MB stick I have to upgrade another computer that using old PC133 stuff but if I do this my system will only have 512 MB of ram then.

If I should go the memory way, would it be safe to just get the same stick or should I get say PC3200 instead or get there Low Latency version of PC2700 so there isnt any problems with ram timings?

Suggestions?

Your system looks excellent. I wouldn't upgrade anything right now. Socket 939 for amd will be out soon. Or you can go the p4 route with pci express later this year. Your present overclock is outstanding. If your system is stable, I would simply start saving more money for a real upgrade later.

I agree. Your current rig is very nice, indeed!! I'm assuming you're overclocking that PC2700 a bit...nice job! Your OC is great and your video card is top-notch...what more do ya want?

Heh, "Pot, meet Kettle." :D I also always want "Bigger! Better! Faster! More!" :D

But there's that whole "point of diminishing returns" thing and w/the upgrades you speak of, you're in that zone. That's why I haven't upgraded from an "old" NF2 board to a "new" one like the Abit NF7-S. Sure, I'd gain maybe 10% performance. Is it worth the $100? To me, no.

What I AM doing is putting my pennies aside for an A64, NF3250 rig. Once the bugs have been worked out, of course.

I will then transfer the memory, HD subsystem and video card from my current main/gaming rig, to said new system.

I mean, crap, if you've absolutely GOT $300 burning your wallet to pieces *shrug* who am I to tell you how to spend YOUR money? I hate it when people try to do that to me....even though I've been on my own for 15 years, that STILL chafes my ass. :disgust:

Anyway, bank your money; your current rig is great. Hold out for an advanced A64 or P4-64 bit rig.

Well I was going to tak your advice BUT then

Im not to happy having to run my 2400+ at stock speed cause my board doesnt have a PCI/AGP 1/5 divider. Iv come to find out that my new 9800 pro doesnt like a AGP of 70mhz+

Iv also had some problems that make me believe my PSU (antec 300w) isnt enouth power for all the crap in my system so.......

I went and ordered a Abit AN7 along with a Antec Truepower430 from Newegg.

Then again my problem could be from when I got water on my motherboard and didnt realize it intill I wasnt able to turn in on, so getting a new board my be a good idea anyways even if I do have a great system right now.
