Mind you I don't usually ask too many questions on AAT here unless I research a lot about my problem.

Make a long story short... I sold my X2 4400 system and upgraded to:

<Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (revision 3.3)
Intel Quad-Core Q6600 g0 stepping (purchased from fellow AAT member said it hits 3.00ghz easily although I have not been able to boot this yet)
4GB of Mushkin PC2-8500 1066mhz 2x2GB Sticks
Raidmax 530SS found here
EVGA 8800 GTS 320MB PCI-E
Audigy 2 ZS
Avermedia PCI-X1 Dual ATSC/NTSC tuner card
4x hard drives 3 sata, 1 ide, 1 cdrom in sata bus
3x 120MM fans, 2x 92mm fans all in a Antec Solo case (cables are managed for airflow)
CPU cooler (almost forgot) is a Xigmatek HD-1283 cpu idles around 33-35C / 42C load

I installed Vista 64 without a hitch, had 1 or two odd reboots and blue screens after installing my extra pci USB2.0 card, so I pulled that and now it seems fine. I ran 3Dmark Advantage and resulted in 4676 Marks which seems very low but could be due to my graphics card. All drivers are the latest. My memory timings are 5-5-5-15 @ 1067mhz (the gigabyte bios says 1067, either that or 888 no multiplier in between) I see all 4 cores in vista and have been running this for about 3 days now with no crashes.

So here's the issue:

Besides the unimpressive 3dmark score, I have been noticing that when I turn on my system it will come on for a brief second I'll see the power supply light go on and then pop off.. then delay 1 more second and the system boots surely. This situation is a common occurrence. I am trying to determine is it's my power supply not being powerful enough for the system or if it's something else. I also noticed that when I pushed the processor to 3.00Ghz by upping the FSB in the bios to 333x9 upon reboot, it would turn on and shut off completely, turn on again, shut off, and then finally on again with the old settings because apparently it couldn't run at that speed.

Anyone have any idea's to see if I am getting decent levels to my components? Or if I have to worry about this power supply at all? It was purchased fairly recently, I really would not like to buy a new one but if it's a case of my system being underpowered I would like to correct that. I do know system stability can heavily rely on a decent power supply so I thought I'd ask the pro's here.

Thanks in advance :)

EDIT* - On a side note no voltages were adjusted everything is at Auto in Bios, only thing changed was the DRAM timings and speed.. which I tried the same overclock with them at the default 800mhz autodetected by the board, and still resulted with the power off/on boot

I read through the guide and the only thing I can think of is disabling C1E Halt if thats what your referring to, thats what I am going to try but I have a feeling the root of this problem is deeper

This is a feature built into P35, X38, X48, P45 ASUS boards, cause mine does this, that too when changing BIOS setting or cold boot only. But i dont know if it is the same for gigabyte. Although my system powers on, goes off and powers on again and runs perfectly.

I remember reading somewhere here on AT that its some new thing by ASUS to implement BIOS changes etc, but not sure if its there in Gigabyte boards too....

Try on the gigabyte support forums, if other people have same issues...

That sounds like the Intel chipset double POST, I thought it was only the chipsets that bharatwaja said, but maybe it happens with the 965 too. It's not a problem, it's just the way it is.

Use the ORB to tell if your 3Dmark results are comparible to similar systems.

AFAIK the 965 Chipset does not have this. But there is nothing to worry because of this.

Thanks for the responses guys. I believe the newest revision 3.3 may ahve implemented that double post feautre because I noticed when I do change bios options, it will occur. This morning I turned my PC on and to my surprise it didn't do it, so it must be true of the newer 965-DS3 3.3 revision boards or part of the latest bios F13?

I am going to go try disabling C1E and see if I can get it into windows @ at least 3Ghz. I'll post back with results.

The double POST "feature" most certainly does exist in P965.

My P5B-D used to do this all the time.

I cannot remember exactly what triggers it, but IIRC, it's due to version of bios & overclocked levels usually.

It's not abnormal; that i can say for sure.

No luck after disabling C1E and EIST with the FSB boosted to 333mhz. Still confused as to why I can't get it to post. Do my voltages need to be increased? Or would Auto for the voltage controls take care of a moderate overclock like that.

auto voltages would definitely take care. But Why don't you try to change the voltages manually? auto would consistently give voltage more than what is required. Try if you can get it to post with manual voltage settings...

What is the highest stable oc that you can get to? a cpu-z screen shot would be welcome...

Also 965 chipset.

my thoughts.

However you can never buy a cpu expecting it will hit that overclocked even from the member unless he was to sell you his board and ram combo along with it.

I got my RAM one stick at a time from different retailers... although all four sticks are the same type, its not those 2GB or 4GB kits that companies sell, still I have no compatibility issues and my pc OC's like a gem....
Its not that only RAM kits can be compatible or can OC well or anything like that.... AFAIK....
