i just sold a laser printer (hp laserjet 2100) on ebay and wanted some feedback on how i should pack the thing. do u think it would be alright to get one of those moving boxes from like office depot, along with a ton of peanuts and bubble wrap? in previous years... i've ordered refurb monitors online, and when they delivered it, it was the box and some foam in a bag that cushioned the monitor. i figured that foam stuff would be great for my situation, but could i just buy that stuff from a store? and if all else fails... any idea how much it would cost me to take it to a packing store and have them pack it for me?

You local Staples store will pack it for you for $5.00, much cheaper than buying the box and packing peanuts yourself spanky

edit: Don't forget to insure it! :)

Open it up and tape some of the insides to keep them from moving.

Heh, how much is the OEM LaserJet 2100xi box worth to ya? :p

Out of curiosity, why would you sell it? It's got to be better than just about any new $200 laser printer on the market.

2100's are fairly rugged.

Remove the toner cartridge, tape the front & rear doors closed, & tape the right hand side panels on. You might tape the registration assy (metal flap under the toner cartridge) down, though it'll likely be fine. If you just have one lower tray (tray two) tape it into the printer.

Other than that, I would say 6" of padding on each side, something that won't move around (bubble wrap is ideal).

i plucked the lj2100 from surplus at work. it had a problem printing "ghosts" images. i thought i could fix it by cleaning out the printer, but the problem goes beyond that. so i put it up on ebay and some printer fixing guy bought it. now i just wanna get it to him in a safe manner. i think i kinda overcharged him on shipping... so packing it well is the least i can do :p

i was thinking... the 2100 is fairly hefty... wouldn't it crush the bubble wrap?

Nah, 2100 is a toy.

As far as fixing it goes, if you've tried another toner cartridge you could have fixed it by installing a new fuser.
