Hi,

Im planning to build a rig consisting of:

AMD A64 3000+ s939
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
and OCZ 3200 EL Platinum Rev2

Ill be attempting to overclock it to 2.6Ghz. My question is......should i go for one stick of 512 now and buy a second stick when i get enough money, or should i get the 1gb DC kit now(this option would require me borrowing some money.......which is not a probelm).

Would getting two seperate sticks of 512 hinder Dual channel use or oc'ing at all?

Thx

It will be most beneficial to get both now, and I was under the impression that the ocz rev. 2 only comes in 1gb dual channel kits anyways. At least I haven't seen anyone selling just 512mb of it.

Yeah, OCZ acutally DOES sell single sticks of Rev2. I will probably go for the DC kit.....but just incase i cantget the money......what ARE the disadvantages of getting 2 seperate sticks at seperate times?

you need 2 sticks of memory on a socket 939 board or it will not post because it needs dual channel to operate. So given that info, it would be best to go with 2 sticks lol

And you save money if u get 2 sticks in pack usually anyways.

Really it will not post with 1 stick. I never knew that.

This is utter nonsense. Dont listen to this guy. You DO NOT NEED dual channel to use s939. It has a dual channel memory controller, but that doesnt mean u have to have dual channel. There arent really any advantages to getting 2 vs 1 stick of ram now vs later except for the ~3% increase for having dual channel. If you have to cut your funds, dont hesitate to buy another stick later. Just make sure its exactly the same type of ram when u buy your second stick.

Hmmmm....if I do go for a single stick of OCZ 3200 EL Platinum Rev2 right now.....is it possible that they would change it future?? I think everyone remembered when the bh-5 and bh-5 chips dried out. Tat wont happen with the samsung chips would it? :p Just want to make sure that a second stick of ram WOULD be available in the future.....or else, ill be stuck with single channel forever lol.

U could just buy another in the fs/ft forums if that ever happens.
