In my spare time, I make and edit small films with my friends. The time has come for me to get rid of Adobe Premier on x86, and move on to Final Cut Pro. The problem is, Final Cut Pro only runs on Macs. So, I've got $1300 that is waiting to be spent. What kind of specs would be decent for video editing, but not cost too much. I really want to spend about $1300 including the monitor, but I might be able to go a bit above that. Also, a used machine is fine.

Note: Please, no Mac flames, only serious responses. I don't know much about Macs, but it's about time I start learning.

used g4 should be fine. my workstation (@work) is a 1 ghz setup with the standard specs + superdrive. It renders video fairly fast. Note that rendering effects is still a time consuming process (it takes about 2x realtime to render). Keep in mind that rendering is going to mostly be processor dependant. Also keep in mind that you'll need an extra hd. Head over to hot deals forum and find the best deal you can find. I set mine up with 2x160/7200/8mb maxtors. You can setup raid if you're daring.

anyway, the g4 should run you ~ 1000.00 (300 shoudl be enough for hds).
