I'm just wondering if any of you have some good suggestions on what to do in order to setup an online shopping cart, order processing and database to basically be an online retailer. If there are any packages available that don't cost an arm and a leg or if you have any other suggestions I'd appreciate it.

i've purchased from a few places that use 2checkout for credit card processing. and i believe alot of webhosting companies use them as well. here's a link to their rates.

What's the expected volume? If it's small time sales, less than $2000 a month, then you can use paypal, 2checkout, or some other CC processor that doesn't force you into monthly fees. For volume larger than that, it's best you start with talking to a bank for full merchant processing. The actual shopping cart setup is easy, although labor intensive if you don't have your items already catalogued electronically. Spend a lot of time by reading about online fraud; it's going to be your number one concern.

OsCommerce - Free. I've tried installing it, quick and easy if you know how to set up MySQL database on your webhost server.

Runs well, complete package.
