Need some suggestions on lighting kit

sygyzy

I just picked up a large lightbox/tent but want some dedicated lighting for it. I know I can use a strobist kit but that's a flash right? I want continuous lighting. That just makes more sense to me so I don't have to deal with (remote) triggers and timing and all that. I don't know much about lighting so I am going to go with continuous tungsten. I don't really wnat anything shitty but I don't have time (or desire) to really do the reasearch. Can someone recommend a good brand or kit? Or just give me some pointers at what to look for ... ie wattage, height, type of tripod, weight, etc.

Thanks,
David

I used continuous lighting once. A neighbor wanted me to photograph her 4 month old. I had a 500w light (barely enough but had a f/1.8 lens)and just with that everyone was starting to get cooked. Flash is much better. You just set your camera to 250ms and it will sync fine with the flash.

i have to wonder just how far off from good studio lighting a set of daylight balanced CF bulbs would be? very bright for the wattage so no issue with everything heating up.

Flash is much more expensive unfortuantely. But let's say I went that route. Would it stilll work through my lightbox/tent?
