Need some suggestions for VMware vCenter Converter

I would appreciate any thoughts as to what you folks think could be my issue here. I have a Windows 7 install that I am trying to convert to a VM. I am on my second machine creation with the Converter, and even though I have changed a few things, my results are the same.

The VM will actually boot all the way to the Windows lock screen, play the Windows login music, and then just sit at 'cltr+alt+del to log on.' The keyboard and mouse do nothing. Even if I sent a ctrl+alt+del through the Player, it still just sits there. I have tried it in normal mode and safe mode, and still can't get it to work (so the keyboard and mouse do work before Windows starts to load). When I started it the first time, I believe the mouse worked, so possibly additional software at startup is messing things up.

This isn't a crucial project, but would be convenient if it worked. If anybody has any ideas as to what the problem might be, fire away!

My next attempt will probably be to image it to another drive, strip it of drivers and software not needed for the VM, and try again.

NP. I wish it had worked. As luck would have it, the hard drive on the machine died this morning. Oh well. Once I get it replaced I'll try again.

When you boot it up in the vm, how long did you wait till you tried to use the mouse or keyboard. I remember doing one an it took a bit of time to for it to actually install its drivers / allow me to log in, thing it was about 10-15 min.
I believe it does something in the background at the first boot.

But its been a while and the machine that is running the vm was not the fastest

What host? If Win10 or Win8, why not use Hyper-V? I forget what converter I used to move my WHS2011 to a VM in hyper-V, but it was pretty damned seamless.

Windows 7 was the host. The funny part about drivers is that I think that's what ruined it. When it came up for the first time, i believe the mouse may have worked. But the keyboard never did anything. But after I let it run and update, nothing. There are a couple other things I would have tried, but since the HD gave up, I am putting together a VM from scratch. Thanks for the replies.
