Just finished Angels and demons and realy enjoyed it. Considering getting digital fortress now (already read da vinci code, wondering if digital fortress will be the same sort of style with neat facts and such). Here a couple other books that i have been told are good reads.

Dark tower: Gunslinger revised
River world

If you have read a good book lately please post and tell me about

argh, ur supposed to read Angels & Demons first!

hehe, i thought A&D was FAR superior to DaVinci.

read The Day After Tomorrow, by Allan Folsom (no relation to the movie). really cool thriller.

i didn't read Digital Fortess, but i hear bad things. Deception Point was decent, i thought.

if u want cheesy action, there's always Clive Cussler. Sahara was pretty cool, and a movie for it is in the works.

*EDIT* i also HIGHLY recommend Neuromancer. It's sci-fi, if u like that stuff, but it's an amazingly good read (esp if u like movies like Blade Runner)

I just finished reading The Shining.

great book... it's probably the first book that I've ever found to be really scary.

I found "Candy", "Lady Chatterly's Lover" and "Behind the Green Door" to be delightful reading, especially in the bathroom. 😀

Dune (original was the best, follow on books are so-so)

I really enjoyed The Word and the Void Trilogy by Terry Brooks (Running with the Demon, A Knight of the Word, Angel Fire East). I'm not a big fan of the Shannara books, however - never been able to finish one. I read "Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold!", also by Terry Brooks, awhile ago...it's worth a read, but the Word and the Void trilogy is lots more fun.

If you like Fantasy books, Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series is very good. I wish I had the extra cash to buy the latest book though. 🙁

Read 1984 and the most of the dune series already, excellent reads indeed. I like WE and brave new world more than 1984 personnally

Aren't those movies? 😛

Anyways, how about The Davinci Code? I have it sitting on my desk but have been too busy to start it. The jacket describes a very interesting story.

Stop supporting the hack known as Dan Brown.

American Gods -Niel Gaiman.

I'll have to admit - while I liked most of his books, he IS very overrated. Digital Fortress was horrible. Especially if you're an Anandtecher, you're going to be shaking your head at all the stuff he gets wrong dealing with technology. He got a lot of it wrong just in Deception Point. Oh yeah, I believe you store a multi-terabyte database on 'optical drives'. Right. Oh and I understand you've DOWNLOADED images onto your cd DISK? Gotcha.

Dan Brown = not to be taken above face value = cookie-cutter characters with a one-legged plot.

I haven't read those, and don't plan on it. I'm just glad I didn't spend money on Angels & Demons and Da Vinci Code. They wre mildly entertaining, but for the most part the characters were paper thin.

Exactly. And of course you saw the extreme similarities between the characters of A&D and The Da Vinci Code? He took a cookie-cutter and made two batches of cookies. Bland cookies that taste like cardboard.

I thoguht A+D was good, same with davinci code, althought i do admit that facts rather than characters drove the plot. As for the books i got being movies, Hunt for red october is a tom clancy novel (im sure you knew that though) and the day after tomorrow is recommend farther up in the thread so i thought i would give it a try.
