Need some soundcard advice

the audigy 1 is a great card. it will be better than onboard since it supports eax and the like aslo frees up a few cpu cycles. for $30, id say go for it. the only thing the audigy 2 adds is 7.1 speaker support, a 3d format that i forgot and a slightly higher signal ot noise raito. audigy 1 is a great card, though it tends to distort pure music a little bit, the countereffect is that games sound much better.
 
Distort pure music? So music will sound worse? I play a lot of games and watch lots of movies but the only time i really blast the speakers is when i'm playing music which is often. So if music is most important to me i might not want to go this route?

no not really worse, just not flat. it is a little less balanced towards the extremes. it will be overbassed somewhat so it dosent sound as natural.
