Need some serious LCD TV HELP!

Okay I'm trying to figure all this out. I just bought a Syntax Olevia TV and began to wonder about non-TV LCD monitors. When I go to Best Buy and similar stores to get a good look at the LCD TV's I noticed that the stores never used the TV Turner but a 3 colored cable similar to RGB Cables but the colors were darker. Now I know that Best Buys uses HDTV via some form of satelite or digital cable. So i'm starting to wonder if there are LCD's without the Turner that can be used as televisions if you have Direct TV or Disnetwork? Does anybody know? So many people on this forum use abbreviations it's sometimes hard to understand. I'm not a tech idiot, but i'm certanintly not too good with the LCD knowledge so any info will help.
