You don't need to hire someone for that stuff; that's do-it-yourself-able. For the screwholes, just buy some spackle, patch the holes, let dry, then paint over it. Total cost, about $5 for the spackle and a spackle knife.

Wallpaper is a DIY item too, but takes a little more time.

But if you don't feel like dinking around with these things, then I'm not really sure where to go. You might inquire at Home Depot or someplace, to see who they might recommend for that. Maybe they even offer that.

Home Depot...

Seriously... It's not that hard to patch nail holes. Lighting fixtures are pretty simple too. I changed out all the light switches and outlets in my house when I moved in. I also changed some lighting fixtures. Nothing to it.

I've never done wallpaper before but it can't be rocket science.

You can dooooo eeet!

Yeah, do it yourself. It's not hard. Hell, I'm a girl and I don't hesitate to do everything myself. I can even weld (arc, gas, mig) and properly solder copper pipe, and do drywall, concrete work, framing, electrical, etc. If I can do it, you can too. :)

for the wallpapers, which is my main concern and it's the main problem, how do you go about ripping it out? and do you rip out just the part that's bad or do the whole room?

after ripping it out, do you just paint over it or put wallpaper back in?

ask neighbors for the numbers for home renovation contractors in the area. however, these jobs are seriously easy and may not be worth their time. they definitely won't be worth the money you will most likely pay.

i think there is a home depot home improvement cd-rom that even cvs sells for $5. it should be able to tell you how to do these things.

see, i'm afraid that i'll screw something up really bad because i don't know what i'm doing and it's going to cost me a lot more than what i would to have it done professionally the first time.

Have some faith in yourself...it really isn't that bad. Do most handymen have college degrees? No....it's manual labor type stuff....easy to fix if you mess up.

For the screw holes, go to a hardware store and get some spackle... fill the hole and sand it flat...if it doesn't look right, do it again. Make it smooth to the touch and you can then paint over it with primer or do 2 coats of paint...

For the wall-paper, this is more of a job, but it just takes patience. You'll want to saturate the wallpaper to help the glue release from the wall. It takes some work, but you'll get it...then just throw up new wallpaper. Most has glue on the back.....throw the paper in your shower and get it wet....wait a few minutes and stick it on the wall.....get it in position and trim the excess with an exacto-knife. Easy stuff...

to rip it off you need to buy wallpaper remover. it usually comes in a spray on or a mix. you'll also need a device that makes little holes in the wallpaper to facillitate the remover getting under the surface of the paper.

1. make the little holes in the wallpaper.
2. apply the remover with a sponge or sprayer
3. wait some amount of time according to instructions
4. paper should come off with pulling

to paint wall:

1. spackle any holes
2. sand surface of wall to make sure it isn't bumpy with wallpaper glue remnants or spackle bumps
3. apply paint (use roller for broad strokes and brush for areas near trim or moldings)

you may need more than one coat of paint if you don't use a primer.

i prefer paint to wallpaper but that's just my tastes.

Use a paper tiger and either water or wallpaper remover in a spray bottle after you've perforated the wallpaper. Peel & scrape until it's all off, then wash the wall REALLY well with water. If the wall is in really good shape, you can prime and paint it, otherwise you can put up new paper.
