Need some Raid 0 experts here

Need a little help.

I have a raid 0 array set up in bios. Thats all cool.

I have a hd already with OS and MBR on it. I don't want to put the OS on the raid 0. I just want to boot into XP via the single hd and then have the raided array seen and available for storage.

Is this possible? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes.

??

Have you even tried to set up the RAID array? There aren't any tricks here, you already have the OS installed on another drive. Just set up the RAID array as instructed in the manual and that's all you have to do. The RAID array won't default to the boot drive if you already have one.

I have set up the raid array. I can see it when I hit 'cntrl h' during the boot process. It just doesn't seem to be able to be seen by the OS.

If there are no tricks to it, I will just continue to mess with it to see if I can get it to come up. Thanks for the input.

Here's how:

Right-click My Computer -> Manage.
Select Disk Management on the left. In the panel on the right, you should see two hard disks- one is going to be the drive you're booting from, the other will be the new RAID-0 array. Right-click the RAID-0 "disk" (it should say Not Initialized or similar), and click Initialize. Then, right-click on the long stripe that appears next to the RAID-0 disk, and select New Partition. Follow the prompts, and hit OK. Your new drive should now appear 🙂

Yeah. I went in there and hoped to see it too. I've set up raids with this system before just not after I've already established an OS. Just not there. I appreciate your help though.

I'll have to reformat tmr and just put the OS on the RAID array.

Have you loaded the RAID drivers for that motherboard? If not, then it's likely Windows doesn't even recognise that there's a controller and therefore drive there 🙂

Hey......Hey........Hey....I don't know how to thank you. What you said at the last post there made perfect sense and that was it exactly. Thanks so much, you saved me from some work. Thanks again.
