I've finally gotten my house back together after hurricane Ike ripped the roof off of my house and collapsed half the ceilings.

I'm just now getting around to filling out the personal property loss worksheets for the insurance and I need some idea on what the replacement cost is for the speakers I have. (If I don't provide either an actual cost or reasonable replacement cost they'll low ball me)

Normally I would just use the receipts as my wife and I keep all receipts, by month for 7 years but I can't find the ones for the my speakers.

My speakers are:

Sony SA-VE445H HT speaker system

1X Powered Subwoofer:

* Reproduction Frequency Range: 26-200Hz (no dB variation given)
* Continuous RMS Power Output: 135 watts (6 ohms, 20-20,000Hz, 0.8% THD)

5X Satellites:

* Rated Impedance: 8 ohms
* Maximum Input Power: 120 watts
* Sensitivity Level: 84dB (1W, 1m)
* Frequency Range: 120-50,000Hz (no dB variation given)

Any idea on what a similar level replacement set off speakers would cost?
(I believe the system was in the $250 - $300 level)

Any recommendations on what to replace it with? (can be more expensive)

The room they were/are to be mounted in has 18ft ceilings and is pre-wired for 5.1 surround sound with the speakers mounted about half way up. The room itself is roughly 20x20ft.

Thanks for any help.

Hurricane Ike was trying to help you by giving you good reason to invest in 2.1 speakers and then add on a center channel when budget allows. Then, again when your budget allows, buy either cheap surrounds or new mains and use the old mains as surrounds.

Just my recommendation ;).

What is your definition of reasonable priced? And for how many speakers?(2.0, 2.1 etc.)

Exactly? My typical instant response to Bose is Kef. Kef stuff is generally high on the WAF and also sounds significantly better, and is comparatively priced to Bose.

I'm basically looking for a complete 5.1 set. Due to WAF I need smaller satellites to mount to the walls and a decent subwoofer. (3 of my old satellites, and the sub got wet)

My budget is definitely $1000 or less, around $500 would be better. We've basically had to rebuild the half the house out of our own pocket while the insurance company tries to find there ass with both hands and a flash light. So I won't be replacing the speakers until the insurance cuts us a check. Plus our old speakers look to be around $300 limiting my budget.

My receiver is a Sony STR-DE695

The HSU VTR-12's look interesting. So do the KEF speakers

Cliffs:
Budget: $500-$1000 (Bang for the buck)
Looking for: 5 smallish satellites, 1 sub
WAF: Very Important
Reciever: Sony STR-DE695 (old enough not to have HDMI)
Room: Fairly large and tall, carpeted (again finally), mounts are half way up the 18ft ceilings
