Need some quick help with a .txt file

So i have a paper of mine saved on a flash drive. I wrote it in wordpad and saved it as a .txt file so I could pretty much open it on any PC.

Well now i'm trying to open it and it wont work. It opens with all symbols and other mumbo jumbo.

I have vista on my laptop at home, but dont think that would be the problem. Is there another program that i need to open it with? I'm a little confused why this happened.

Sorry I'm posting here in OT, but i need a fairly quick response.

First things first, probably the wrong forum. Windows/PC Software is probably a better home for this.

Post the first 100 or so characters and we might be able to tell what format it's in.

Get a trial version of a text editor that handles various encodings, like TextPad, UltraEdit or SC Unipad.

Did you actually save the file as .txt or did you rename a .doc file to .txt?

i figured it out. i was trying to open the wrong file.

the file i needed to open was a works file hence why it wasnt working. now i converted it in word and all is good.
