Normally when I install an AMD cpu there is a small core that the AS goes on. I noticed on my p4 the entire surface needs to have AS on it and there is also a small hole on the top.
Just want to make sure before I proceed. Do I cover the entire surface and the hole?

BTW here is a pic I borrowed off of someone.

Leave the hole open. But if you get a small amount of paste in it, it won't harm anything. I believe the hole is for venting only.

the small hole is for venting the epoxy that holds the IHS to the CPU package. its use is finished, as the epoxy has set. it can be sealed no problem.

concentrate in the center, and apply kinda like you did before.

also what version of AS are you using? i have never used AS, always the white paste.
