Need some networking help

Project #1) Here's what I'm working with. 2 pc's , 2 nics, crossover cable, Host PC running Win98SE, Client running Win98. What I want to do is use a dialup connection on both computers. What network componets(netbuei,tcp/ip, etc) do I need installed? Do I need ICS only installed on the host PC? This setup will be for internet connection sharing only. I tried this setup on my dad's PC. I could connect to the internet from the client PC, but could not connect from the host PC. Things got really screwed up on the host PC, had to get the restore cd out on his HP computer just to get it straigtened out. Can someone give me the step by step on how to get this setup correct.

Project #2) This setup is for my PC and my kids PC so they can play games against each other. Im working with same setup as above, both PC's running Win98SE. This setup will be for gaming only.
I have not attemped procject #2 yet. Im waiting on a nic that will be here Monday. I have spent hours reading up on all this. I have read so much from so many different sites that I think it's got me all confused.
Can someone give me the step by step on this setup also. Thanks in advance.

Project #1:
You need to install TCP/IP protocol on both of the PC's. I am assuming you'll be dialing out from the host PC only? If that's the case, you'll need to install ICS on the host PC only. When you install ICS on the host PC make sure you enable the DHCP server (it's part of the ICS and should be enabled by default). On the client PC, make sure in the TCP/IP configuration the obtain IP address is set to get from the DHCP.

Project #2:
I am not exactly sure which games you'll be playing. Some games use IPX protocol, but most use TCP/IP. In any case, you could install both of them just to be safe. For IPX protocol, you don't need to do anything to it besides installing it. For TCP/IP, you will need to assign each of the PC's a unique IP address. I would recommend just using the 192.168.xxx.xxx private network IP's. Just assign 192.168.1.1 for one PC and 192.168.1.2 for the other PC. The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0.

The TCP/IP properties I want to configure is the one with my nic , not the dialup adaptor? Is this correct?
Thanks for the info.
