Well, the CPU slot on my Abit BH6 just died on me so I need a replacement now. What I am looking for is the cheapest decent motherboard that can handle a Celeron II 566@850. I already have a sloket so it can either be a Slot 1 or a PGA motherboard for all I care. It must however be based on the Intel BX chipset. So what are your suggestions?

Thanx in advance

I suggest the Abit BM6 or Asus CUBx (get the CUBx if you use lots of USB periphs, it has 2 onboard and a header and backplate for 3 more).

So thorin the Abit BM6 supports a Celeron II right? Cause I didn't see anything being mentioned in the site, but then again they don't say anything about the BH6 ... anyway just to be sure. ;)

Thanx for the reply

I don't mean to sound like an @ss but why is it that ppl never read the actual message but just reply to the title? I mean how can anyone recommend Asus P3B-F when what you are looking for is something cheap to host a Celeron II?

MrGrim,

Sorry, no answer here but I'm interested in the same thing and I have two of the Micro Star Slockets to use so I would prefer Slot1 but I could always sell the slockets.

So here's a bump for your question.

I dont think any of the BX with ATA66 can be any cheaper than $110-120. If thats the price range you're looking for, great, I recommend MSI BX Master and Asus CUBX. If you're looking for something in the sub $100 range, I would recommend the MSI MS-6163Pro, one of the best BX boards w/o ATA66 controller. Stay away from Abit though.

I can vouch for the MSI 6163Pro. Nowadays, as previously mentioned by LXi, it's *extremely* cheap, infinitely stable and supremely overclockable. How're those adjectives for ya? ;)

I'd additionally visit BXBoards.com and go through their reviews. It's reliable and comprehensive info.

I'm about 85% sure that the BM6 will take a C2. I remember reading posts here about other people doing it. Once you decide which MB you can always post asking people's experiences with that board and the C2 proc you are going to get.

I didn't state a price range because it's pointless. I am currently in Cyprus and most of you ppl are in the US,UK,Korea,Taiwan etc. See my point? The prices are so different here. The requirements were for the board to be based on the Intel BX chipset and to able to support a Celeron II 566@850. That's all, no ATA/66 no 5 PCI slots or anything like that. What I want is a board that can cover the requirements. If many of them do then the cheapest one.

Both Abit BM6 and Sus CUBX sound pretty good and I will definately see if I can get any of those two over here.

Thank you all for your replies, if anyone else has something else to propose I am all ears. :)
