Need Some Mac to PC HDD Help

eits

Lifer
i took a bad hdd from a mac and put it in my pc, hoping to salvage a couple files that are absolutely vital to retrieve.

bios sees the hard drive...
windows device manager sees the hard drive...
'my computer' doesn't see the hard drive...

i'm assuming it's because of a formatting issue.

does anyone know of any programs that would allow me to open this drive and take the files that i need?

i installed hfsexplorer and it's not showing me anything... am i doing it wrong?

... this is why i don't post hdd questions in the hdd/memory forums and just go ahead and do it in atot...

a little help, please? time is of the essence.

Your computer and Windows will both recognize that a disk is present. It can't read the Mac file system though as you already know. A program like MacDisk might work but if the disk was already bad on the Mac chances are slim it will work on the PC.

Your best best would be to try to salvage thse files on a Mac first, save them, then copy them over to a PC via CD, DVD, USB, or network.

Since you are near St Louis, you might want to take it into an Apple Store, and lay out the problem for them.

i'll call the apple store today and see if there's something they can do and how much it would cost. knowing apple, it'll probably be too expensive.

Knowing hard drive recovery, it will probably be too expensive. If you go into the store, and speak to a Genius and are calm and polite, they might do it for free, I have always had good luck with the Genius bar.
