Offline co-op campaign for 2-4 people. I remember playing Diablo II offline through hamachi.

FPS or RPG game would be best. I've searched the forum and internet. L4D, Borderlands, and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 came up a lot. Are they offline co-op?

Any other good FPS games with a co-op campaign?

As for RPG games, not looking for games like Diablo II. Want a game that can actually be finished.

Serious Sam 3 has it, played a tad bit of it at a friends house, it was FUUUUN! Didn't play Co-Op but it has to be way better than single player, and I had a blast at SP. SS 1 & 2 HD have co-op too I believe.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a very good, very cheap "semi-realistic" military shooter with an open environment and flexible mission structure. GREAT for co-op, played it with my brother and had a blast. It's not a mindless kiddie shooter like BF or CoD, but it's also not a hardcore sim like ArmA.

On the other hand, if you or your friends are up for it, and it sounds appealing to you, co-op ARMA is some of the MOST fun I've had in co-op. The depth and realism make teamwork a must, and super rewarding.

Borderlands is a pretty awesome game in multiplayer, but I dislike the always on mic.

l4d/l4d2 is fun. If you like zombie stuff, I think its worth a play through.

Serious Sam is fun.

Doom with the JDoom or Zdoom modification is another option.

Titan Quest + Immortal Throne expansion (like Diablo)
Serious Sam 3 (and the HD remakes of early ones)
Dead Island
Saints Row the Third (can play the whole campaign coop)

That's just off the top of my head.

what kind of co-op?

Serious Sam games can have up to 16 players play through the "campaign"

Left 4 Dead, Payday: The Heist, Dead Island, and Borderlands are up to 4 players

Saints Row the Third is 2 players, as is Resident Evil 5, Portal 2 doesn't have co-op for its primary campaign but does have a secondary co-op campaign for 2 players that is just as good.

Trine 2 is 3 players

might want to check out http://www.co-optimus.com/, huge list of games, and will tell you which ones are offline/online/lan etc...

Trine 2 is fantastic fun. Buddy and I sat down and played 5 hours straight without realizing it. For 15 bucks it is hard to beat, especially if you get another player or two to join you in your quest. The inclusion of local multiplayer, local as in multiple people on the same computer, is awesome. You can use multiple keyboards and mice or gamepads on the same machine. Also the game is artistically beautiful. Not Crysis detail beauty, aesthetically beautiful instead.

I cannot praise this game enough for 2-3 players.

omg... for some reason I never considered multiple keyboards/mice on the same machine. When I read local multiplayer I always thought of gamepads, which I don't have. Time to hook a second KB/M and play coop serious sam 3 :D

L4D/L4D2 and Borderlands are my picks (i've done these at LANs a LOT).
You do need steam for L4D of course; not needed for Borderlands though (unless you buy the steam version).

As for "finished", the campaigns in L4D/2 are short.
Borderlands, especially if you add in DLC, is a lot more time, easily 50-100+ hours if you actually do most of the missions, and the second playthroughs. Not to mention farming for better lewtz...

I know they're crusty, but man I remember great times playing Alien vs Predator 1/2 at LAN parties. It's hard to beat that kind of rush when everyone starts figuring out what race they like playing and get good at them. Its a fast, brutal game.

Along that same theme, there's a top-down mod for UT4 called Alien Swarm I think. 4 people (maybe more) play in a squad through several missions in survival mode. You pick out different main guns, backup weapons, whether or not to carry extra ammo, a flamethrower that will ignite your squad mates and their ammo packs... very chaotic and fun.

Those are fun for LAN's and small time killers, but coming from Co-op campaigns and the like, I was looking for something with a bit more longevity.....

Thanks though.

AOE II is $10 at Walmart and one of the best LAN games I've every played. Right up there with WC3, Starcraft, etc.

Unreal Tournament is another great LAN game, also UT:2004. CS:S and even 1.6 can be a lot of fun, usually playing online on the same team.

Dungeon Siege was a lot of fun over LAN, especially if you enjoy Diablo type RPG's. Titan Quest would be another example.

Borderlands

/thread

L4D series is too "arcade'ish", its just a run and gun quick fix, with no exploring or progression, it has little in the way of "campaign" game play.

UT 2004 is one of the best LAN games ever made, but again, there isn't a story or campaign mode, it's purely a multiplayer team vs team arena game.

Borderlands you have quests, vehicles, exploring, leveling, upgrading gear, etc. It's one of the best coop campaign games to come out in a LONG time. It's like combining Diablo 2 and Fallout 3 into a co-op FPS RPG. It's pretty long (50-100 hours as mentioned) but it DOES end, plus the 4 xpacs are optional, but I would recommended General Knoxx since it affects the base game (higher level cap, etc).

A 4 player game with one of each of the 4 characters would be a blast.
