so i was involved in an accident on saturday and i did a police report, today a lady called me.. (ITM) institute for something i forgot the full name.. and said that since i reported an accident and i was not at fault the police gave her a file so that she could call me to set up an appointment with a doctor to check am i okay..

do police really do that? do they give your information out to someone so they can contact you and offer you a free checkup to make sure you are ok?

the address they gave me 1420 locust st, philadelphia = the academy house or something

edit: the thing is the guy who hit me.. ran.. so i dont know how their insurance company would get someone to see me.. because im paying for the car accident because of no witnesses, i did a police report and gave them the guys license plate # but thats it

I don't think so. My wife was in an accident a few months ago, the police just told her she should probably go to a doctor to get checked out. They didn't give any info to anyone else.

i did a quick search for itm and institute. came up with the institute for traditional medicine. why they would call you is beyond me, usually the insurance people will tell you go to see your doctor or they can reccomend someone. honestly, with the info you've said (and what little i know of your situation), i'd call this as an example of ambulance chasers.

Probably a scam? I know many people who were involved in accidents that were not their fault and no one has ever called them.

They would probably say you are injured and would recommend a lawyer, who would then sue the insurance company on your behalf and would keep 40% of the settlement.. ITM gets a cut from the lawyer...

OP... don't worry, they aren't going to scam you. Just the other driver's insurance company.

Woohoo.. insurance scammers are the bomb!

The entire story sounds shady to me, including but not limited to the ITM business.

You don't know who hit you, so 'the other guy's insurance company' doesn't know you either. This is likely some scumbag ambulance chasing lawyer or something who read through the police reports for the day (public record) and contacted you trying to get money.

EDIT:

If she called you in the first place, she already had your number.

Okay, good... then they are going to scam your insurance company or you. Even better!

yeah gave cell and home to the popos

Then they likely had both anyway. If it's on the report, they can get it. When my Dad got hit in December, he had all kinds of calls from these guys coming in to his home & work numbers.
