Hi everyone. A few years ago, I purchased a Gateway P-6860FX "gaming" laptop from Best Buy. I am, by no means, a computer expert, but since my purchase I have come to understand a little bit more about computers and that this probably wasn't the best purchase for some moderate gaming.

Anyway, I am wanting to purchase DiRT 2 from Steam. I'm a little worried about my processor; it's an Intel T5550 (which is a 1.83ghz Core 2 Duo, if I'm not mistaken) and I'm not quite sure if I will be able to run the game (it requires a Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz or AMD Athlon 64 X2). I know that other than the processor, my computer should be fine.

If anyone could give me some input, I would really appreciate it. Oh, and my apologies for the long(ish) post. Thanks in advance.

a core 2 duo is faster clock per clock than a pentium d or athlon 64 x2...but 1.83ghz is a pretty big discrepancy from 3ghz, regardless...however, it looks like your laptop's screen resolution is 1440x900. this isn't a particularly high resolution, and imo it's worth a try to see if it'll work. maybe see if there's a demo you can check out first?

I doubt you'll be able to play it at a decent frame rate, if at all.

Can't you download a demo first?

he's running an 8800m gts with 4gb of ram at 1440x900...despite his relatively slow cpu i think he should be able to at least play it.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I did do a little more digging after I posted this question, and I more or less came to the same conclusion as mfenn.

Also, thanks for the link to the demo. I was so focused on figuring out the system requirements, I didn't even think about looking for a demo lol.
